Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the NationalSkill Academie (NSA) app and website (nationalskillacademie.org) collect, why, who sees or receives it, how long we keep it and the rights you have over it. NSA is run by Veecap Eduventures Private Limited, Research Park, IIT Guwahati, Assam, India (“we”).

What we collect

• Your account: your full name, your mobile number (verified through WhatsApp when you sign in, or entered by your college), your email address, the college you choose, your NSA ID, semester and batch, and a profile photo if you add one.
• Your learning: the lessons you watch and for how long, the questions you get and your answers, scores and time in MCQs, quizzes and the final exam, the skills you are enrolled in, and the badges and certificates you earn.
• Your rankings: your score, your rank in India and in your college, your first-try accuracy and your streaks — all worked out from your learning.
• Your certificate requests: the learning record saved when you pass a final exam (see Certificate approval), who reviewed it, the decision and its reason.
• Your project work: the photos and files you upload (with their file names), the link and notes you add, and the marks and comments from reviewers.
• Your purchases: what you bought, the price, any coupon or discount, how you paid, the NSA partner credited with the sale, the payment status and the payment references from PayU and your bank. Card, UPI and bank details are entered on PayU’s secure page and never reach us — we never see or store them.
• Messages in the app: the notifications we show you in the app, and activity updates that name you — for example, that you scored in a quiz or enrolled in a skill — which your college and NSA see.
• Sign-in records: for each WhatsApp sign-in, a one-time code, your verified mobile number, the message’s ID, your IP address and the times. If you start signing up and do not finish, the name, email and college you typed are kept.
• Server logs: for every request to our servers, your IP address, what was asked for, the result, the time and your device’s user agent (which browser or app sent it) — to keep the service secure and fix problems.
• College staff: name, login email, designation and a password (stored only in scrambled form), and the college’s details.
• NSA partners: the business and owner’s name, email, phone, address and map location, logo, GST registration, bank account or UPI ID for payouts, plan purchases and payouts. The business name, owner’s name, address, phone and logo are public on the partners map on our website.
• Partner enquiries: if you fill in the partner form on our website, your name, mobile, email, place, organisation and message, and a scrambled form of your IP address (never the address itself).

We do not collect your date of birth, gender, home address, location, contacts or anything from your microphone. We do not show ads or sell your data, and there is no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tool in the app or on the website.

App permissions

• Camera — only when you choose to take a photo of your project work to upload.
• Photos — through the system photo picker; we only receive the photos you pick.
• Files — through the system file picker, to upload project files or a profile photo; we only receive the files you pick.
• Internet — to sign you in, stream lessons and save your progress.

The app never asks for your location, contacts or microphone.

How we use it

• To create and secure your account and sign you in.
• To run your courses: unlock lessons, record progress, mark MCQs and exams, review projects, work out rankings and leaderboards, and issue certificates once your NSA partner or NSA approves them.
• To process payments, coupons and receipts, and to credit NSA partners with their sales.
• To show you notifications in the app.
• To answer your questions, keep the service secure and prevent misuse.
• To check whether a newer version of the app is available.

Certificate approval

Your certificate is issued after the partner (or NSA) reviews your learning record (videos watched, MCQs, projects, final result), which is shared with that partner for this purpose.

When you pass a semester’s final exam, we save your learning record in that skill as it is at that moment:

• lessons watched (out of the total) and your watch time, chapter by chapter;
• MCQ sets solved, questions answered and how many were correct;
• projects submitted, with their titles, status and marks;
• your final exam score and attempt.

The record carries your name, NSA ID and college, and no other personal details. It goes to the NSA partner credited with your enrolment or, if there is none, to NSA’s own team. NSA’s team can see and decide every request.

The reviewer approves your certificate or declines it with a reason, which you see in the app. A declined request can still be approved later.

Who sees or receives your data

• Your college sees your contact details (mobile and email), photo, NSA ID, progress, scores and rank, results, project submissions, certificates and payments — that is how it runs your programme.
• The NSA partner credited with your enrolment sees your name, NSA ID, mobile, email, college, skills and the amount you paid. When you pass a final exam, it also receives your learning record (see Certificate approval).
• Other students see your name, college, photo, score and rank on leaderboards. The home screen shows each student the top 5 of their college, with name, photo, score and rank.
• Every college sees NSA-wide semester reports that name the top 5 students in India, with their college, score and rank.
• The public: nationalskillacademie.org shows the top 3 students in India, with their name, college, photo and score.
• PayU (payment gateway) receives your name, email and mobile, what you are buying, the amount and our order reference; where an email or mobile is missing, we send a placeholder instead. For the UPI QR in the app, it also receives your IP address and your device’s user agent. For a partner’s plan, it receives the owner’s name, email and phone and the plan.
• WhatsApp (Meta): to sign in, you send a code from your WhatsApp to the WhatsApp number the app opens for sign-in. Meta delivers the message to a technology partner of NSA, whose relay passes your number, the text and the message ID to us.
• A technology partner of NSA works on our behalf: it relays the WhatsApp sign-in, runs our servers and has technical access to the data to do so.
• YouTube (Google) plays the lesson videos inside the app. Your device’s IP address and user agent reach Google, and YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to what its player collects.
• Expo (a US service) answers the app’s update check at each launch. It receives your phone’s platform, the app’s version and a random ID made when the app was installed — never your name, number or account.
• Microsoft Azure hosts our database (South India) and its backups (Central India).
• A hosting provider provides the server that runs the app’s service and this website, and stores the files you upload.
• OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim receives partners’ addresses only, to place them on the map — no student data.
• Government authorities, only when the law requires it.

Security and storage

All traffic between the app or website and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Our database and its backups are kept in India, in Microsoft Azure’s South India and Central India regions.

Google (YouTube), Meta (WhatsApp) and Expo may also process what they receive outside India.

If you add a profile photo, it is public: it is kept at a public web address, because leaderboards and our website show it. Photos and files are stored as you upload them, including details your camera may save in a photo, such as where it was taken. To keep that private, turn off location tags in your camera before you take the photo.

Cookies and storage

Our public pages set no cookies. They only remember your scroll position in the browser tab, so a reload brings you back to the same place.

The admin and partner panel uses only the cookies it needs to keep you signed in, plus one that remembers whether its sidebar is open. There are no tracking cookies.

The app keeps your sign-in, a copy of your profile and any unfinished MCQ set in your phone’s secure storage. Signing out removes your sign-in and profile.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is active.

When you ask us to delete your account, we deactivate it at once and delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days. We keep payment records (amount, date and what was bought) for as long as tax law requires.

Backup copies are kept for at most 30 days, so data we delete also leaves our backups within 30 days.

Your rights

Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:

• See your data — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, what we use it for and who we have shared it with.
• Correct it — fix anything that is wrong, incomplete or out of date. You can edit your name, email and photo yourself in the app (Profile → Personal info → Edit); for anything else, including your mobile number, contact us.
• Delete it — ask us to delete your account: see nationalskillacademie.org/delete-account.
• Withdraw your consent — at any time, by contacting us. We then stop using your data, except what the law requires us to keep; without it we cannot run your courses.
• Nominate someone — name a person who can use these rights for you if you die or become unable to.
• Complain — tell our Grievance Officer first (see Contact and grievances below). If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Mention the mobile number you sign in with, so we can confirm that the request is yours.

Under 18

NSA is meant for college students.

Anyone under 18 may use NSA only with the consent of a parent or lawful guardian, who accepts our Terms of Use and this policy on their behalf.

A parent or guardian can contact our Grievance Officer (see Contact and grievances) to see, correct or delete the child’s data.

We show no ads, sell no data and do no advertising or behavioural tracking of anyone, adult or child.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top.
